Pine nut is the seed of Pinus Koraiensis. It contains mostly olein and linolein. It also contains palmatine, protein, and essential oil.
Pine nut is sweet in taste and warm in nature. It goes to the Liver, Lung, and Large Intestine channels.
Pine nut is great for promoting body fluid, arresting convulsion, moisturizing the lung, and lubricating the intestinal tract. It is used commonly in Chinese medicine for migratory arthralgia, vertigo, dry cough, hemoptysis, and constipation.
Pine nut can be decocted as a drink, be part of the Chinese herbal formula, or be eaten after parched to release some of the fragrance.
Note: For a person who is suffering from loose stools, spermatorrhea, or phlegm-dampness, pine nuts should be avoided.
