Long Jing, aka Dragon Well, is roasted green tea. It is originally from Zhe Jiang Province in China. Xi Hu (West Lake) in Hong Zhou is where the authentic Long Jing is planted since the 8th century. You may have found other Long Jing teas planted in other Provinces in China, but those are not considered to be the "real" Long Jing.
Long Jing can be categorized into several grades depending on where they are planted and harvested. Higher quality of the tea leaves can be identified by their lighter colors, tenderness of the leaves, and the uniformity of the leaves.
Long Jing had been considered to be the top quality and expensive teas by Chinese Emperors in different dynasties. It was called Gong Cha in Qing Dynasty.
Long Jing is aromatic and cold in nature which is great to clear heat. It has Vitamin B1, Vitamin C, antioxidants, and caffeine. It can promote digestion, help lose weight by reducing accumulation of fat cells,, boost metabolism, and eliminate free radicals.
However, we have to be careful about the intake of the amount of the tea, although Long Jing can benefit us in many ways. People who are anemic or have gastric ulcer should not take any Long Jing because drinking green tea, in general, may cause anemia. If a person who has the mentioned condition insists to drink some green tea, he or she has to take less than 1000 mL a day and has to drink it at least an hour after meals.
Furthermore, women who tend to have PMS syndromes and women who are in their menstrual cycles should not drink green tea until the cycles end because of its cold nature.
